Hazards
This is a mountain spot and it's large. So as soon as you move away from the Lelex ski resort, it is recommended to have skins and poles with you (Split board or snowshoes for snowboarders). It's not uncommon for the wind to drop, and if you're 5km from the starting point, it could be very long to return on foot in the snow with your gear on your back. A GPS can also be a good idea because in case of poor visibility, it can quickly become complicated to find your way.
Also, as a general rule, ridges should be avoided, firstly because birds nest there in winter and secondly, depending on the location, there are cliffs just below. At the bottom of the spot, avoid riding at the edge of the forest, there is also wildlife spending their winter peacefully. If you come across chamois or other animals, leave them alone so they don't exhaust themselves fleeing from you. The map above is up to date with the latest prefectural decree.
Wind specificities
With Southwest wind, go up via Crozet or Lelex.
With westerly wind, you can access the spot from both sides. This is also the orientation that allows you to enjoy the entire spot. But be careful if the wind drops, you can quickly find yourself very far from your starting point.
With North and Northeast wind (bise), access the spot preferably from the Mijoux-la Faucille side. The spot will extend from the edge of the forest to Colomby de Gex. You can also do a downwind to Lelex, provided you are organized to retrieve your car. This is now prohibited!
