Overview

Island View Beach is a regional park located in Saanichton, north of Victoria, on the Saanich Peninsula. The spot faces east toward the San Juan Islands (USA) and Haro Strait. It's one of the most popular spots in the Victoria area thanks to its extensive sandy beach and reliable thermal conditions in summer.

On the water

Flat to choppy water. Sand and pebble bottom. Large shallow area at low tide. Moderate fetch from the east (San Juan Islands). Tidal current possible in Haro Strait. Best at mid-tide and high tide.

Hazards

Tidal currents in Haro Strait — do not drift too far offshore. Floating logs. Cold water. Large mudflats at low tide making launching difficult. The US border is nearby. Paid parking in season.
