Spot de Naussac

Naussac

Naussac

Overview

Kitesurf and windsurf spot on Lac de Naussac (48), a 700 ha reservoir lake near Langogne in the Lozère (Massif Central), at 1,000 m altitude. The lake is 7 km long by 3 km wide and fills in late winter/spring, then empties progressively from mid-summer. Two main launch zones: the south beach (left of the nautical base) for south wind — flat water, ideal launch; and the south-west beach opposite, for north-west wind. Facebook community: "Kitesurf au lac de Naussac (48)". Camping adjacent to the base. FFVL-labelled spot.

Hazards

Watch for swimmers in summer near the nautical base. Do not drift into the wooded nature reserve zone at the lake's edges. Lake level drops progressively from mid-summer through autumn — check navigable depth. North-East wind gives very inconsistent and unpredictable conditions — avoid.

Wind specificities

Two dominant directions: South (most frequent) — strong but gusty, builds from midday in fair weather, very flat water in front of the dyke; and North-West (rarer but steadier) — rolls cleanly down the full length of the lake, slight chop possible. In fine weather, afternoon thermals can build a beautiful NW. North-East is unreliable and unpredictable — avoid. Long tacks, bring a harness!
